Rx Networks GPStream™ Mobile Suite GPS acceleration technology supports GPS chipsets from multiple vendors.

We welcome Rx Networks to Intel's ecosystem program and are glad to be working with them to enable ultra-fast, ultra-sensitive GPS performance on next generation handhelds based on Intel's Moorestown platform.

Rx Networks, Inc., a leading mobile positioning technology and global services company, today announced that it has been collaborating with Intel Corporation to optimize its GPStream™ Mobile Suite of GPS acquisition acceleration solutions for Intel's next generation handheld platform codenamed "Moorestown" and Linux-based Moblin software environment. This enables device manufacturers of Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) and Smartphones to design their platforms with virtually any GPS chipset without compromising the end-user mobile location experience.

Rx Networks' GPStream Mobile Suite technology includes:

  • GPStream™ SUPL 1.0: Mobile network standards-compliant client software for real time assistance.
  • GPStream™ SUPL LE (Light Edition): A SUPL 1.0 data service hosted by Rx Networks over its existing carrier-grade, 99.999% service infrastructure. OEMs can provide their customers fast GPS performance even if the operator has not yet deployed its own SUPL service.
  • GPStream™ PGPS™: Extended ephemeris solution that complements and enhances SUPL 1.0 performance. It enables the fastest possible TTFF by eliminating the need for real time assistance network transactions. The solution requires very small 2Kbyte weekly downloads that are upto 90% smaller than competitive extended ephemeris solutions. The payload can be delivered over virtually any connection including the Internet and even SMS, WAP or FM.
  • GPStream™ SAGPS™: Extended ephemeris that does not require any network connectivity to operate. Originally targeting personal navigation devices, the solution has also found use in market segments where consumers prefer advanced handset products but are sensitive to recurring network service fees and roaming charges.

"We are pleased to be working with Intel for our chipset agnostic GPS assistance solutions," said Dave Cayer, Vice-President of Marketing of Rx Networks. "By porting our GPStream Mobile Suite software to the Linux-based Moblin software environment, device manufacturers will be able to enjoy a ready-built, production client application for fast and seamless integration of their preferred GPS chipset."

"As consumers increasingly rely on their mobile Internet devices and smartphones to experience the full Internet, they want quick and easy access to location-based information around them," said Pankaj Kedia, director of global ecosystem programs in Intel's Ultra Mobility Group. "We welcome Rx Networks to Intel's ecosystem program and are glad to be working with them to enable ultra-fast, ultra-sensitive GPS performance on next generation handhelds based on Intel's Moorestown platform."

The GPStream technology is available for license from Rx Networks. The technology will be demonstrated at Intel's Developer's Forum in San Francisco from September 22, 2009 to Sept 24 2009.
