On the auction block (Sept 27 - Oct 4) will be historical items from 16 Magazine's former editorial directors - Danny Fields and Randi Reisfeld and is everything you would expect to find in the personal files of a celebrity magazine over the course of three decades. Fields and Reisfeld were two main spokes in the wheel of this highly successful magazine, who worked tiresomely to churn out pages of rare photographs and exclusive interviews with musicians, movie/television stars and pop culture icons. "It has been fascinating putting this auction together because so many of the pieces are truly personal, one of a kind and 30 years later are very relevant from a historical perspective," states Jacques van Gool, founder, Backstage Auctions.
The auction features an impressive selection of extremely rare and vintage photographs and negatives (along with full ownership rights) from photo shoots exclusive to 16 Magazine, as well as interview notes, personal handwritten letters, celebrity signed notes and cards, press kits, original interview recording tapes, bound volumes of 16 Magazine issues spanning several decades and loads of interesting ephemera. "16 magazine was really, really good at getting the celebrities they covered to sit down and write notes to their readers," says van Gool. "If you want a letter from Rick Springfield or the Bay City Rollers, chances are, it's in the auction."
Auction highlights include a rare & never before published collection of negatives (with full ownership rights) featuring The Beatles taken during the mid 1960s at various press conferences, concerts and on location in the Bahamas, when the Beatles were filming the movie "Help!". This is also an amazing collection of Jackson 5 & Michael Jackson memorabilia dating back as early as 1969 - including photos, negatives and rare ephemera. "Another impressive collection is the Bay City Rollers memorabilia, which dates back to 1969 and includes photos, negatives, handwritten letters & lyrics, press material and promotional items. We believe it to be one of the single largest Bay City Rollers memorabilia collections ever featured in a single auction," says van Gool.
