The economic slowdown has not discriminated in its effects on employers and employees, corporations and organizations. Non-profits have been particularly hard hit as external funding sources dry up and private and corporate donors cut back or eliminate their contributions. Recognizing the financial pressures on non-profit organizations, Corporate Audio Visual Services (Corporate AV), a specialist in cutting-edge audio, video, lighting and staging solutions for conferences, meetings and special events, is more committed than ever to its "Give Back" program that supports those who support others.

The Corporate AV culture fosters volunteerism and giving back to the community during times of need and times of prosperity. The company encourages employees to get involved with area non-profits, paying its staff to be a productive part of fundraising events hosted by non-profits and supporting staff member commitments to volunteer their own time. Corporate AV President Joe Guilderson notes that "non-profit organizations are such a big part of our business that we have made a company-wide commitment to give back." Each year, employees and management identify three organizations to support and focus company-wide efforts toward helping them raise money at their events. The 2009 recipients are local chapters of the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The American Cancer Society's 4th Annual Taste of Hope, a culinary, wine and spirits tasting event, was held in late April at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City. Corporate AV donated a $7,500 package that included an audio system for speeches, announcements, DJ music, and cooking demonstrations; a video playback system; and employee hours for planning and technical support.

The decision to support the American Cancer Society again this year was an easy one. "Many people within the Corporate AV extended family have been affected by cancer," explains Joe Guilderson, Corporate AV president. "We want to help the American Cancer Society communicate its message so that the organization can continue its' mission to find a cure for cancer while working to maintain a support system for those affected by the disease."

Similarly, Corporate AV employees have been touched by heart disease. The company provided over $4,000 in production services and support for the American Heart Association - Go Red for Women Luncheon, held in early May in Greenwich, Connecticut. Guests at the 350-person event enjoyed crystal-clear sound and video throughout the event, which proceeded seamlessly under the supervision of the Corporate AV technical crew. Guilderson notes that Corporate AV has supported the American Heart Association for a number of years. "This year, we provided production support for both the Westchester and Fairfield events, enabling the organization to have a consistent program, deliver a stunning image and room design, and reduce the amount of time spent on production to free up Heart Association employees and volunteers to focus on fundraising."

The third organization, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), received over $4,000 in services and support for its formal gala dinner dance held at Trump National Golf Club in Briarcliff in mid-May. Extensive audio services brought sound clarity to speeches, the live auction, and the 8 piece band. Elegant stage and podium lighting, along with velour draping, gave the room a look that was both dramatic and festive. Corporate AV also designed and configured the space in a way that enabled JDRF to manage on-site donations in real time.

"Giving back strengthens our connection to the community and builds a tremendous spirit of caring and cooperation within our company," says Guilderson.
