Whether our customers are at the office or away on vacation, the addition of remote DVR access offers the added convenience of setting and managing DVRs from any computer, and with the fall TV season coming up, it's a perfect time to introduce this enhancement
Bethpage, NY (PRWEB) September 22, 2009
Just in time for the upcoming fall television season, Cablevision Systems Corp. (NYSE: CVC) announced today that it has deployed a new remote DVR scheduling and management feature across its entire service area, for customers who subscribe to both DVR for iO TV and Optimum Online. The new service, accessible through the Optimum.net consumer portal, allows customers to fully manage their home DVRs - including finding and recording shows and managing stored content - from any computer, PC or Mac.
"Whether our customers are at the office or away on vacation, the addition of remote DVR access offers the added convenience of setting and managing DVRs from any computer, and with the fall TV season coming up, it's a perfect time to introduce this enhancement," said John Trierweiler, Cablevision's senior vice president of product management. "Remote DVR access is a natural evolution of Cablevision's ongoing development of our Triple Play with integrated features that greatly enhance the value of the bundle for our customers."
The new remote DVR capability is available through the company's popular consumer web portal, Optimum.net, through a new "DVR" tab in the "TV listings" category. To access the online DVR feature, customers simply log-in to the Optimum.net home page using their Optimum ID and password, and click on the DVR tab. They will be directed to a "DVR Status" page, where they are able to view the titles of previously recorded programs stored on their DVR, schedule new recordings or even search for programs they would like to record. When viewing programming in the TV listings guide, customers have one-click access to their DVRs through a "Record to iO DVR" option. Similar to programming DVR service with the Interactive Program Guide in the home via a set-top box, remote DVR works hand-in-hand with iO TV's online listings.
Other features available as part of online DVR service include DVR "naming" to differentiate multiple DVR boxes in the household, identifying a "favorite" DVR as a default recording choice unless another box is specified, programming recommendations for shows that are similar to the ones that have been recorded, and setting DVR privileges for other members of the home. Additionally, customers can set up e-mail or text message alerts to remind them when a program is going to run again.
