Portland, OR (PRWEB) September 24, 2009
Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Oregon and Southwest Washington (RMHC®) today announced a new award which recognizes its "Partners of Distinction."
RMHC will honor McDonald's® Owner Operators of Oregon and Southwest Washington, Golden State Foods, and Parr Lumber Company as its inaugural "Partners of Distinction" at the Hearts & Hands Auction on Friday, October 2. The three charter recipients of this new honor have been selected for their sustained contributions of time, treasure and talent. Honorees were chosen by the Board of Trustees with input from senior staff and members of the Hall of Fame.
Partners of Distinction
As a founding partner of the Ronald McDonald House, the McDonald's Owner Operators of Oregon and Southwest Washington started supporting this organization two years before the West House opened 25 years ago. Now, 37 local owner operators from throughout Oregon and Washington are being recognized for their ongoing support of children and families through advocacy, event sponsorship, volunteerism, individual and group donations, and year-round fundraising efforts, including the "RMHC Everyday" coffee promotion, in-store donation boxes and World Children's Day.
Golden State Foods will be honored for their many volunteer efforts, including cooking meals for families, conducting fundraising events, sponsoring other service activities, and delivering supplies to Portland's two houses and events. The management and employees of Golden State Foods, and members of their charitable arm, the GSF Foundation, help whenever they are asked.
Golden State Foods is also a major sponsor of all of RMHC's annual fundraising events.
For the last decade, Parr Lumber Company has been building hope in the hearts of Ronald McDonald House families. The company's support, which began with RMHC's 1999 "Light the House" campaign, has expanded to include employee volunteerism, the decoration of a room in the East House, assistance with capital projects, an annual Parr/RMHC float in the Rose Festival Starlight Parade, unique holiday promotions, and most recently a portion of proceeds from year-round product sales. Parr Lumber has truly adopted RMHC as its "charity of choice."
"While our Hall of Fame has recognized the contributions made by individuals over the years, we felt that our 25th Anniversary was the perfect occasion to acknowledge the equally impressive contributions of our extraordinary corporate partners," says Tom Soma, RMHC Executive Director. "These three organizations have contributed countless hours in service to our children and families and contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars."
Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Oregon and Southwest Washington provides a "home away from home" for families and their seriously ill children who travel far to receive treatment at Portland hospitals, and awards grants to non-profit organizations that offer children's immunizations and dental care.
