As the Linux Foundation's newest member, DeviceVM already participates in the Moblin™ project and we look forward to their future contributions
San Jose, CA (PRWEB) September 24, 2009
DeviceVM, a privately held software company offering Splashtop™, an award-winning instant-on software platform that allows users to rapidly access the Web and key applications without booting their computer's main operating system, today announced that it joined the Linux Foundation and continues to contribute to the Moblin™ project, including Moblin version 2 .
Splashtop, based on Moblin technology, has already been pre-installed by major manufacturers on more than 15 million PCs worldwide. As Web-based content and applications continue to grow, consumers look for Splashtop-powered instant-on Web access when purchasing new PCs. Demand is especially strong in the netbook category, where Splashtop ships on computers from manufacturers such as HP, Lenovo, and LG.
"DeviceVM's participation in the Moblin community and the Linux Foundation represents the appeal of Linux as a platform for a new generation of PCs," said Jim Zemlin, executive director at the Linux Foundation. "DeviceVM's instant-on technology is one of the most compelling elements for the user experience across Moblin-based devices, and we look forward to working closely with DeviceVM on this important work."
"Our product and technology development is very much aligned with Moblin, pioneered and steered by Intel and the Linux Foundation," said Cliff Miller, chief strategy officer at DeviceVM. "We look forward to contributing to Moblin V2 and continuing to use Moblin technology in Splashtop."
"As the Linux Foundation's newest member, DeviceVM already participates in the Moblin™ project and we look forward to their future contributions" said Doug Fisher, vice president of Intel's Software and Services Group and general manager of the System Software Division. "As new mobile platforms based on the Intel® Atom™ processor are brought to market, the success of products like Splashtop is important to the Moblin community as new capabilities and compelling user experiences are delivered to the mobile industry."
Moblin v2, technology which is currently available for netbooks, is the latest from Moblin.org, an open source community that supports the creation and distribution of Linux-based operating system products for Intel® Atom™ processor-based platforms, including netbooks, mobile Internet devices (MIDs), nettops, in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) and embedded systems. Intel launched the Moblin project in June 2007 and incubated the project until April 2009 when the Linux Foundation became the host of the community. Intel continues to contribute key technologies and work with the developer community to advance the effort.
DeviceVM is committed to working with the Moblin community to allow users to rapidly access the Web and key applications without waiting for a traditional OS to boot up. Splashtop instant-on technology allows PC users to access their favorite applications just seconds after pressing the power button: read e-mail, chat with friends, listen to music, watch videos and surf the Web. With Splashtop, users can go between "on" and "off" in seconds, placing information within easy reach while reducing energy consumption.
DeviceVM, Inc. is a privately held software company, selected by Dow Jones as one of the top 50 companies to watch. With its instant-on Splashtop product, DeviceVM is improving the every-day experience of computer users. Founded in 2006, DeviceVM is headquartered in Silicon Valley with offices in Taipei, Hangzhou, Shanghai, and Beijing.
Splashtop is an award-winning instant-on platform that improves the personal computing experience.
