SurfRay has reorganized, and, under new CEO Søren Pallesen, the Denmark-based company is crafting itself as a unified global provider of packaged search technology.

"The last six months have been an exciting time for SurfRay," Pallesen said. "I took over as CEO; we significantly increased investment in product development and an ambitious expansion of the organization. This has paid off. SurfRay is profitable, and we have released new versions of our core products." SurfRay's mission is to deliver tightly packaged search software solutions for businesses to provide effective search for both internal and external users. The company's key products, Ontolica and MondoSearch, are promoted as "easy to try, buy and install."

"Our vision is to be our customer's first choice for packaged enterprise search solutions and to become the world's third largest search solution provider in the world measured on number of paying business customers by 2012," Pallesen said. SurfRay is offering trial licenses so companies can see the products operate in real-time.

"SurfRay has an ambitious plan," Arnold, president of Arnold Information Technology, said. "The company's back and seems to be on track to cause disruption in the SharePoint search and content processing sector. Although the field is crowded, the solutions offer rich features and excellent report features."

The company is releasing updates of its core products. Ontolica is now in version 4.0, which installs in five minutes and includes an intelligence module to deliver search and reporting in one product. MondoSearch 5.4 is in beta for a Q4 release, expanding its out-of-the-box functionality and incorporating search engine optimization features. Being a Microsoft Gold Partner, SurfRay is also looking to take advantage of the upcoming Sharepoint 10 release and has the SpeedIndex product, a highly optimized database oriented search engine and indexing technology with "staggering output."

"Great search that sets up easily is simple to use, at a cost that ensures predictable and fast ROI," Pallesen said.

The interview also includes discussion of semantic systems, intuitive search, and mash ups.

"(Potential clients) know the search is not working and want to get something that does. They can very quickly evaluate that our packaged search solutions gives the results they want and allows them to risk free analyze and adjust it," Pallensen said.
