FireFly Farms, producer of artisanal goat cheeses from Maryland's Allegheny Plateau, proudly announces that they are one of twenty local vendors participating at the new FRESHFARM Market by the White House (http://www.freshfarmmarkets.org). The new producer-only, open-air venue operates in Washington DC on Vermont Avenue between H and I streets, and runs every Thursday though October from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
FRESHFARM Markets operates eight other farmer's markets in the region, and worked to secure this ninth market location in recognition of the Obama administration's support for sustainable agriculture and strong local food systems. With the help and endorsement of White House Chef Sam Kass, FRESHFARM Markets launched the market last Thursday, September 17th. First Lady Michelle Obama keynoted the opening ceremony with a speech emphasizing the importance of healthy ingredients and accessibility to fresh produce and local products. "It's an exciting day," said Bernadine Prince, co-director of FRESHFARM Markets. Obama is "making healthy eating a priority. What we need to do now is make it a national habit."
"We are thrilled and honored to be a part of this new market" commented Mike Koch, FireFly Farms President. "We bring our products to local consumers at twelve regional farmer's markets weekly - they are essential to our business. We are encouraged by the attention the President and First Lady give to local agriculture and artisan producers."
FireFly Farms cheese is available in farmer's markets and fine grocers throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Please visit http://www.fireflyfarms.com to find a retail outlet near you.
