if there are 10 million documents available that everyone's sharing, and if the average dealer does business with, let's say, eight auctions, then essentially that's 70 million pieces of paper being saved, instead of each auction having their own copies, like they used to.

At AutoTec, headquarters of the dealer registration service AuctionACCESS, Sept. 3 was just another day.
That's when Christine Hoard at Manheim Atlanta scanned the 10 millionth document into the AuctionACCESS database, a milestone that, aside from being a monumental number, also stands as a testament to the popularity and effectiveness of AuctionACCESS.
After all, this isn't some fast food chain bragging about its billionth burger. As the number one dealer registration service in North America, every document scanned into AuctionACCESS is a vital piece of information permanently filed into an active database. From authorization letters to membership applications to various licenses -- about 50 different types of documentation in all - each scanned document makes the auction registration process that much easier for the person it belongs to.
AuctionACCESS has been around just over a decade, and the speed with which it hit the 10 million mark was so swift that even AutoTec President and CEO Charles Redden was surprised.
"I don't think any of us had any idea we were getting to that point," Redden said. "A month ago I thought 'OK, we probably have four months before we get to 10 million.' And instead we hit it in less than 30 days."
He attributes the meteoric rise not only to an increase in membership, but also to a big boost in the amount of updated information from existing members. Redden credits AutoTec's ability to process all this to the diligence of the auction personnel and the AuctionACCESS staffers who collect, check, scan and organize every document.
"We have some people whose entire workload right now is scanning documents," Redden said. "It's incredible."
The number becomes even more impressive -- and gives further evidence of how much AuctionACCESS expedites and simplifies the auction registration process -- when considered logistically.
"If you think about it," Redden said, "if there are 10 million documents available that everyone's sharing, and if the average dealer does business with, let's say, eight auctions, then essentially that's 70 million pieces of paper being saved, instead of each auction having their own copies, like they used to."
As it builds toward the next milestone, AuctionACCESS will continue making the hassles of registration paperwork a thing of the past.
