Their preservation efforts have allowed birds like the Bald Eagle to flourish, which at one point was almost extinct in the U.S.

"We have a wooded backyard that's home to about ten different bird species, including hummingbirds," said Ed Dowell. "Our backyard is also home to butterflies and bees, so it's kind of like a natural aviary," added Marge Dowell.
Ed and Marge Dowell are the founders of http://www.OurBirdsNeedAHome.com, a website offering all the products a homeowner could want for housing, feeding and caring for their feathered friends. For the Dowells, what started with a love of having birds in their own backyard budded into a business.
"We have a lot of great bird houses in both standard and more original designs," said Marge. "I think our favorites have to be the lighthouse birdhouse and the log cabin birdhouse."
"In the future we're planning on continuing to add more birdhouses and bird feeders, but we're also looking at butterfly houses," added Ed.
In order to communicate with bird enthusiasts from around the world, the Dowells launched their new blog at http://www.OurBirdHomeBlog.com.
"There are a lot of topics we want to discuss on the blog," said Marge. "I think we'll start with topics like how to attract birds and what to feed butterflies, and even add some of our homemade bird seed recipes."
"I'd also like to make people aware of all the benefits birds and butterflies bring to the backyard," added Ed.
The Dowells wish to do their part to support bird populations around the world, and have plans to partner with wildlife societies in the future. "We'd like to become more involved with groups like the Audubon Society," said Ed. "Their preservation efforts have allowed birds like the Bald Eagle to flourish, which at one point was almost extinct in the U.S."
