New social community aimed at young physicians helps members connect with one another and share information online.

We are very pleased AAP selected ThePort to transform its existing website into an online social networking community for its members.

ThePort Network, Inc. announced today that The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has enhanced its website using ThePort's Social Network Software in a new community, YPConnection. Social networking enabled in YPConnection helps young professionals in AAP connect with each other and share information related to their profession.

With YPConnection, AAP members can develop their own unique profile pages, network with peers, share professional resources, publish their own blogs, upload content to Facebook, connect through groups and comment on blogs posted by others. Chapter and district members can also participate in the community, where they can share local news and information.

AAP said that one of their chief reasons for launching an online community is to bring together members spread throughout the country with YPConnection. Whether they are alumni from the same medical school or professionals who work in the same region, members will be able to connect in YPConnection and discuss common issues in their practices. AAP will continue to serve as the central conduit for these conversations.

AAP chose ThePort Network to supply their social network software because of its relationship with AAP's existing technology vendors and its flexible pricing structure. The pre-existing relationship enabled AAP to implement Single Sign On between the new online community and other parts of its website. The flexible pricing structure provided by ThePort also allowed AAP to add additional social networking features to the community that benefit its members.

"Especially now, as associations look for new ways to retain and acquire a younger-generation of members, social communities can add significant and ongoing value," Bob Cramer, CEO and Chairman of ThePort Network said. "We are very pleased AAP selected ThePort to transform its existing website into an online social networking community for its members."
