A young entrepreneur has set up her own marketing and public relations company which aims to revolutionise the way publicity is delivered. Charlotte Nichols, 25 from Richmond decided to set up Harvey & Hugo after discovering a gap in the market for affordable, one-off publicity for small and start-up businesses whilst working at an agency in Newcastle. Inspired by her two Border Terrier dogs, Harvey & Hugo, Charlotte chose to not only name her business after them, but create the business around their personalities.

Charlotte Nichols, 25 from Richmond decided to set up Harvey & Hugo after discovering a gap in the market for affordable, one-off publicity for small and start-up businesses whilst working at an agency in Newcastle.
Inspired by her two Border Terrier dogs, Harvey & Hugo, Charlotte chose to not only name her business after them, but create the business around their personalities. She said:
“Harvey is the sensible dog and represents the larger companies who need regular ongoing PR campaigns, whereas Hugo’s happy-go-lucky character inspired, Pay-as-Hugo PR – a new concept I’ve created to make publicity more reachable for small and start-up businesses who can’t afford to be tied into an expensive contract.”
Lawrence Conyers from Anson Photography used the Pay-as-Hugo service when launching his business. He said:
“When starting my company, I recognised the importance of PR but contracts and high prices of agencies made this almost inconceivable for me…until I met Charlotte and was introduced to the Pay-as-Hugo service. It gave me just the publicity boost I needed which directly generated new business for me.”
As well as offering contract free, Pay-as-Hugo publicity, Charlotte also delivers high quality ongoing campaigns as part of the Harvey side of the business for which she has just signed Carlton & Co. and UKC Design.
Charlotte added:
“I’ve always had a burning desire to start my own company and it feels amazing that I am now putting my plans into action – its hard work, but I’m really enjoying the challenge.”
Charlotte currently works from home, but has ambitious plans to grow fast, hoping to be in a new office with two employees by this time next year.
