Everyone wants to be loved but nobody wants to be alone... so much in fact that people will stay in horrible relationships to their inevitable detriment. A Lonely Night, a short story written by visual artist Siona Marie Marques was recently published in eBook format and explores the idea of what it means to be alone.
Illustrated by the author with oil paintings from her Inspired by True Love series, this poignant and somewhat poetic story is metaphorical yet simple, containing just three characters. It is set in the celestial environment where characters dialogue with themselves and each other, asking philosophical questions that lead to inspirational answers.
The author states "Life is a journey. Relationships are a part of the journey. Some parts of the trip we are meant to walk alone---to take a solitary path. At other times, we are joined with another in order to experience things together." She asserts the book was inspired by the many failed relationships she has experienced, and the few good ones she has treasured.
She says, "This story is universal and everybody in the world I believe has had at least one lonely night. It may have been a bitter experience, and trust me I've been there, but it didn't have to be. What we choose to see is what we get and that's the basis of this story in a nutshell."
