Students will love the interactivity of dragging punctuation into place, rearranging sentences, and revealing answers -- and teachers will love the level of engagement students will have in difficult-to-teach topics.
Smyrna, DE (PRWEB) October 1, 2009
Today, Prestwick House announces the addition of the first line of presentations enhanced for use with SMART-brand digital whiteboards. Starting with products from the PowerPoint for the Classroom series, eight enhanced presentations on points of grammar and writing have been created.
"As it relates to the teaching of grammar, the most useful feature of a SMARTBoard is the ability of viewers to enter or move data -- correct answers, for example -- directly on the slides of presentations," says General Manager, Keith Bergstrom. "Students will love the interactivity of dragging punctuation into place, rearranging sentences, and revealing answers -- and teachers will love the level of engagement students will have in difficult-to-teach topics."
SMARTBoards have come a long way since creators Martin and Knowlton first introduced their prototype in 1991. Several generations later, students and teachers are now able to use this technology to manipulate objects on the screen using a stylus, which has allowed for boundless creativity in classroom activities. With the ability to connect to the Internet, teachers can easily save changes to their computers, email projects and progress notes home, and involve students in their own education more actively than ever before.
"SMARTBoard is a tool that makes use of the advantages of group learning; the presentation creates a center of focus and prompts students to think together in order to complete exercises," says Prestwick House Staff Writer, Daniel Reed. "By interspersing interactive exercises into our SMARTBoard-enhanced presentations on grammar and writing, we've added to the already existing student benefits of watching, critiquing, and correcting the process as it happens."
In recent years SMARTBoards have become a classroom staples for teachers of students who have grown up using technology. Today's students are constantly writing -- in text messages to friends, in personal blogs, and on social networking sites.
"We live in a very visual culture, accustomed to instant point-and-click delivery of information; SMARTBoard presentations turn these elements into a teaching tool that captures attention, creates a tactile learning experience for abstract material, and encourages the involvement of the whole class. In short, it turns an idea--grammar, even--into substance," says Reed.
"The presentations can be used for introducing new lessons, reviewing specific grammar or writing lessons, or as interactive outlines in support of a teacher's primary lesson plan. As with any SMARTBoard application, the presentation will always be as close as the nearest computer, which means teachers do not need to reproduce notes and blackboard diagrams term after term, year after year."
