Depending on the primary candidate sourcing technique used by the hiring manager, they could be reviewing thousands of resumes each year. Given the duration of a typical search for technical talent, most hiring managers spend a significant amount of time each year searching for new candidates.

My Perfect Gig, a candidate fulfillment service for technical departments such as engineering, software and IT, today announced the general availability of a new research report. "Getting to the Short List: How Hiring Managers and Recruiters Find Technical Talent" offers innovative and practical guidance to technical recruiters and hiring managers for today's challenging and dynamic hiring marketplace.

Ask any hiring manager in a technical field and they will tell you that finding great candidates for open technical positions is hard and tedious work. Why is it so challenging - even for hiring managers with in-house recruiting support - to create a short list of technical candidates for engineering, software and IT positions? To answer this question, My Perfect Gig conducted a research project to better understand the challenges facing both hiring managers and recruiters involved in the pursuit of technical talent. The result is the research report, "Getting to the Short List: How Hiring Managers and Recruiters Find Technical Talent," available for download now.

"We found that the typical hiring manager hires about five technical candidates a year and interviews about five initial candidates per position," said Gary Cormier, Co- Founder & Vice President of Talent Solutions for My Perfect Gig. "Depending on the primary candidate sourcing technique used by the hiring manager, they could be reviewing thousands of resumes each year. Given the duration of a typical search for technical talent, most hiring managers spend a significant amount of time each year searching for new candidates."

To compound the problem, traditional options available to hiring managers and recruiters alike for finding great technical candidates are either labor intensive, ineffective or cost prohibitive. "Hiring managers are not full-time recruiters, yet they also can't simply hand over this task to in-house recruiters. Evaluating technical talent requires a deep technical understanding of varied and complex skills," Cormier added. "However, we did find that both hiring managers and recruiters are more than willing to work together to find top talent."

The survey also showed that hiring managers have difficulty finding the right sourcing solution:

  • A majority of hiring managers were admittedly dissatisfied with the quality of candidates found on job boards;
  • A majority of hiring managers found social networking to be labor-intensive and therefore time consuming;
  • A majority of hiring managers found the cost of search firm efforts to be too expensive.

My Perfect Gig's goal was to help hiring managers and their recruiting partners work toward a common goal - finding top technical talent quickly, easily and in the most cost-effective manner. My Perfect Gig's most recent research report gets to the heart of the issue around hiring technical talent.
