Sarasota, FL (PRWEB) October 3, 2009
The Dattoli Cancer Foundation has announced the publication of a new patient support booklet, co-authored by leading radiation oncologist Michael J. Dattoli, MD, founder and Physician-in-Chief of the Dattoli Cancer Center & Brachytherapy Research Institute, and Jennifer Cash, ARNP, OCN. The booklet, "IMRT with DART and Brachytherapy," is available on Amazon and is also being offered as a complimentary "book giveaway" for prostate cancer support groups nationwide. The booklet will be shipped without charge to the first 250 support organizations and libraries that contact the foundation. Local and national group leaders of Man to Man, Us Too, International, and PAACT (Patient Advocates for Advanced Prostate Cancer Treatments, Inc.) are invited to request copies of the book by contacting Ginya Carnahan at the Dattoli Cancer Foundation.
Geared for informed patients considering the most advanced forms of radiation therapy, this booklet explains how DART, IMRT, and radioactive "seeds," have made the surgeon's scalpel and all other prostate cancer treatments increasingly obsolete. Dr. Dattoli is currently featured in the September issue of the PAACT Prostate Cancer Communication newsletter, with a cover article entitled, "Cautionary Considerations Regarding Proton Beam Therapy, the Cyberknife Robotic Radiosurgery System and the Da Vinci Robotic System." Citing the most recent studies, including his own 16-year data, Dr. Dattoli reports that despite all the media hype about various alternative therapies, there is a superior 'gold standard' prostate cancer treatment protocol that combines radioactive seed implants (brachytherapy) with the most sophisticated external radiation, known as 4-Dimensional Image-Guided Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (4D IG-IMRT) with DART (Dynamic Adaptive Radiotherapy).
A pioneer of brachytherapy and IMRT research, Dr. Dattoli has published numerous peer-reviewed studies and now has the most successful long-term prostate cancer cure rates in the world. His most recent prostate cancer study was presented in February at a symposium for the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). Dr. Dattoli explained the importance of his findings, "The now greater than 16-year disease-free survival rate for patients who have completed our combined brachytherapy protocol is superior to any results reported with surgery (traditional radical or robotic) or with any other current prostate cancer treatment options -- and with far less risk of complications such as erectile dysfunction and incontinence. In recent decades, we have seen a revolution in the field. Advances in the delivery of high energy photons, color Doppler ultrasound imaging, and computerized treatment planning have essentially turned the tide against what was previously thought to be a disease most effectively treated by means of radical surgery. We are now routinely curing prostate cancer patients who were once thought to be incurable. At this time, an overview of prostate cancer treatment from a non-surgical perspective, as presented in our new booklet, is crucial for every patient wishing to receive the highest standard of care."
The new booklet is part of the Prostate Cancer Essentials for Survival series published by the Dattoli Cancer Foundation. Dr. Dattoli and Ms. Cash also co-authored a comprehensive patient guidebook published earlier this year, entitled, The Dattoli Blue Ribbons Prostate Cancer Solution: How to Survive and Thrive Without Surgery.
