Date Night is not just Friday or Saturday night any more. And it's not just for couples. In downtown Alhambra, for eight weeks starting October 7, the Mosaic on Main Street business association will be sponsoring Wednesday "Date Night Alhambra" promotions with something for everyone. Families, friends, seniors, dates, singles, and groups are invited to discover the pleasures of an evening stroll while enjoying dining and retail specials, dancing, live entertainment, and movie discounts.
Known throughout the Southland for its pleasant small-town atmosphere and wide variety of international cuisine, nightclubs, theaters, and shopping, downtown Alhambra, centered at Garfield and Main, is friendly, colorful, and walkable. Parking is close by, and free, making an evening midweek trip to Alhambra a relaxing experience to look forward to.
"I can't imagine anyone coming to downtown Alhambra and not finding something they like to eat, no matter what kind of food they prefer," said Summer Field, a recent visitor. "The choices are just amazing."
From appetizers and drinks, to a quick bite or sit-down meal, to an after-show dessert and coffee, Alhambra has it all, in a concentrated radius reminiscent of how downtowns used to be. Recalling a time when Main Street America was synonymous with a safe, bustling, well-lit area for window shopping, people watching, and maybe dinner and a movie, Alhambra's downtown business district is an appealing destination on any budget.
Virtually every downtown establishment on Main is offering a Wednesday night special. International cuisines represented include Chinese, Cuban, French, Indian, Italian, Malaysian, Mexican, Vietnamese, Thai, American Traditional, steak and ribs, fast food, sandwiches, tacos, and themed dining such as Hawaiian and American Fifties & Sixties diner fare. There are pubs, clubs, an alehouse and grill, coffee places, yogurt and ice cream parlors, sweet shops, and juice bars. In addition to meal and drink promotions, selected restaurants will have discounted Edwards Theater tickets, good at any Regal movie theater, and Edwards will be giving away free movie posters.
For browsing and shopping, downtown stores and art galleries will be open until 9pm or later. Live entertainment by street entertainers, and salsa and ballroom dancing round out the offerings.
"Downtown Alhambra is a unique attraction," states Mike Fata, president of the Mosaic on Main association. "Nowhere else in Southern California can you find the global mix of food, cultures, and shopping that we have here in such an accessible, user-friendly environment. Free parking? That's almost unheard of these days, especially in Los Angeles. With the Wednesday Family & Date Night promotions, we hope that people will discover all that we have to offer, and then spread the word that downtown Alhambra is a great place to bring the kids and grandparents, or go on a date. We picked Wednesday, because it seemed that people needed a midweek diversion, something to do, and also to help boost business for our members. It's a win-win from all sides."
