Naked Wines' producers Matt Fowles and Sam Plunkett, the team behind the uniquely named Ladies Who Shoot range, have just won top spot in the Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine's Top 100 New Release Whites.
Their Ladies Who Shoot Riesling, along with thirteen other Plunkett Fowles wines, scored an impressive 95 out of 100, the joint highest score. The wine is available from online wine retailer Naked Wines' website.
The Top 100 list, which has been released just in time for the Australian summer, described the Riesling's bouquet as "almost exaggerated, with a spicy, concentrated intensity," and the palate as "powerful, rich and flavoursome, with mouthfilling properties."
Naked Wines' were first introduced to the Plunkett Fowles range back in March when a group of their customers shortlisted the Ladies Who Shoot Their Lunch Chardonnay to be stocked on the site; another wine to score highly in the Gourmet Magazine, which describes it as having "bright, clean, fruit-dominant aromas and a fine, soft, palate tailored to have texture, refinement, line and length."
"We are really delighted with the results," explained Matt Fowles. "This is a really big thing in Oz and we're chuffed to be there at the top."
Other awards won by the two Australian producers include 'Best Victorian Red' for their Ladies Who Shoot Shiraz at the recent International Wine Challenge Awards 2009, as well as a handful of accolades for their Stone Dweller wines at the Federation Square Awards, Victoria.
