FullBloom Baking Company a natural and organic baking company, and the Boulder Valley School District (BVSD), announced that FullBloom Baking Company is now providing baked goods free of artificial colors, artificial flavors and preservatives to the 28,000-student school district.
"If we want our kids to eat healthy, we need to pull the preservatives, artificial colors and flavors, and high fructose corn syrup out of the food served at school lunch programs. It's ethical eating, and it is one of the ways to start making real changes in the way our children eat. In the past, public schools have not been successful in serving 'clean' foods that are preservative-free," explains Chef Ann Cooper, the "Renegade Lunch Lady" and interim BVSD nutrition director. "Not only are FullBloom's products preservative free, but they are delicious. FullBloom's products pass the kid taste test: our students gobble up FullBLoom's banana muffins, blueberry muffins and foccacia. We also like the fact that their products are produced in an environmentally friendly facility, one that is designed to be LEED certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) at the highest or platinum level."
"It's great to see the Boulder Valley School District lead the way for the rest of the country in providing clean, nutritious food for their students. Everyone
knows that solid nutrition is one of the foundations for receiving a quality education. Boulder Valley School District passes the nutrition test for its students," said Karen Trilevsky, founder and CEO of FullBloom Baking Company. "We're excited to partner with school districts that are redefining the way our school children eat."
The "School Food Project" is a public-private partnership whose goal is to improve the health, nutrition and taste of school lunches. FullBloom started serving baked goods to the Boulder Valley School District in September. FullBloom and Ann Cooper seeded their relationship when Ann Cooper took over the lunch programs for Berkeley Unified School District, and needed to source healthy baked goods for the program. Ann Cooper is an evangelist of healthy lunches, and recently went to work with Whole Foods Markets' Lunch Revolution program to provide tools for school districts across the country to provide healthy nutrition for America's school children through a program called http://www.thelunchbox.org.
