The timely seminar, which was held as millions of dollars are being procured through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), focused on how federal government contractors can be better prepared for large new business growth and ensure they are in compliance with ever-changing federal regulations.

The seminar, titled "What's in Your Government Contractor's Tool Kit," took place at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md. and featured presentations from Tom Dudenhoefer, vice president, Major Account Sales, Payroll Network; Mitchell Weintraub, partner, Cordia Partners; Kathy Albarado, president & CEO, Helios HR; and Thomas Ricks, senior regional sales manager, Taleo Corporation.

Participants learned how to quickly and effectively ramp up accounting, payroll and HR infrastructure after contract wins.

"While many companies may use 'one-stop-shop' payroll and HR management, government contractors have unique needs and requirements that necessitate a more customized approach that Payroll Network, Cordia Partners, Helios HR and Taleo bring to their human resource information management systems (HRIS)," said Charles J. Wolf II, CPA, president and CEO of Payroll Network.

Dudenhoefer reviewed the top 10 most popular HRIS features and options including the ability to import/export data, job and pay history, ad hoc report writing, e-mail alerts and user defined fields.

Presentations also discussed how to capture the right employee candidates and data about them, as well as how to use Web 2.0 technologies to recruit top talent.

"Everybody is very well connected," said Ricks. "Talent that is essential to your success on your next contract may be invisible to you. You have to put these Web 2.0 tools to work for you to find the best and brightest people. A good talent management system will use all of these tools and easily help you integrate them with a few simple clicks."

In addition, the presentation focused on a discussion of DCAA, OFCCP and DOL regulation thresholds and how to ensure a company is in compliance as well as specific tools for ensuring compliance and timely reporting.

"Being aware of current and future Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) is essential to your success," said Weintraub.

Attendees also learned the latest federal employment regulations and requirements including how to create an affirmative action plan and what to do if your company is audited from Albarado.
