Bangalore, India Imagine landing in a place without a hotel booking. Or wanting to find more about a destination while travelling there. What if one wants to call a travel agent at the destination for booking a tour. What does one do? Buy a guide book? Do all places have one? Pull out the note book with phone numbers? Be at the mercy of touts? Move over! The HolidayIQ mobile site is the way to go.
Backed by the immense popularity and trust that their website has gained among travellers, HolidayIQ has launched a mobile site (a version of the website available on mobile phones) m.holidayiq.com. Accessible from all popular mobile phones, this site aims to be a combination of destination guide, hotel guide book and holiday planning tool on the go. With a quarter of India's population owning a mobile phone, it is almost certain that a traveller, especially the holiday traveller, carries a mobile phone. HolidayIQ already has a wealth of information on destinations, hotels and travel agents, that other site do not have. This combination is certainly a recipe for success.
HolidayIQ's mobile site is not a replication of its website on the mobile. On the other hand, it has features that are relevant for mobile user, tailored to work on the mobile platform and exploits the mobile phone technology. HolidayIQ is soon going to implement the Holiday Booking Request on the mobile phone too as well as provide mobile access to the travel agents to the leads generated.
"The initial response to the WAP has been very good," reports Hari Nair, the founder of HolidayIQ. "The traffic to the site is increasing steadily. We have achieved a certain degree of success with our website. We are likely to reach the same leadership status with our mobile site in a much shorter time frame."
HolidayIQ's website didn't take much time either, to reach where it is today - be the fifth most visited travel information website in the world. Its traffic grew even as the world economy shrunk, travel industry saw new lows and the holiday traveller developed cold feet. On the Alexa ranking system, HolidayIQ zoomed from a rank of 10,000 to 5,000 in a matter of few months, while reaching 10,000 had taken a couple of years.
"These are exciting times for the travel industry, especially in India. With the travel industry slowly limping back to normal globally - in fact growing robustly in India, technology developing fast and being available easily, especially the ubiquitous mobile phone, there are ample opportunities for us to make an impact," avers Nair. "Our mobile site opens up a whole new category of users and therefore members to our site. The website and mobile site complement each other."
Actually this is not the first time that HolidayIQ has developed something on the mobile. Their Holiday Booking Request uses the SMS platform extensively for connecting the consumers and travel suppliers. This product itself has been a tremendous success with both the industry as well as the site's users, as it provides high quality, low risk leads to suppliers at a low cost and a better overall holiday planning and booking experience to the traveller.
