The Institute for Health Technology Transformation announced today the moderator and key topics for their Privacy and Security Protections Panel, for this year's Fall Health IT Summit on November 4-5, 2009 in Beverly Hills.

The presentation, entitled: "Privacy and Security Protections; The Necessary Foundation of Health IT Projects," will explain the importance of healthcare providers and vendors working in concert to adopt best practices to meet security and privacy. Topics will include the best methods and solutions to achieve access control, authorization, and the transmission of health data; the barriers delaying the application of privacy and security protection regulations from being implemented immediately; the standards and protocols to implement security protective regulations; and strategies to get vendors, providers, researchers, and technologists to collaborate with one another in order to implement the most effective, efficient, and secure health IT projects.

Mac McMillan, Member, HIMSS Privacy & Security Steering Committee and CEO of CynergisTek, has been selected to moderate this very timely panel. CynergisTek, specializes in the areas of information security, regulatory compliance, and IT audit. He brings nearly 30 years of combined intelligence, security countermeasures and consulting experience. His philosophy for security is grounded in appropriate solutions, business purpose and knowledge, and common sense application of technology controls. He has worked in the healthcare industry since his retirement from the federal government in 2000, and has contributed to HCCA, AHIA, AHIMA, and HIMSS. He holds a MA in National Security and Strategic Studies from the US Naval War College.
