Positron Access Solutions Inc. announced today that Sacred Wind Communications Inc. is expanding Broadband services (high speed internet) to Navajo Reservation, using Positron and Occam products.

Sacred Wind is deploying Positron's Aktino AK5000 Metro Ethernet product line for remote DSLAM backhaul applications in rural New Mexico. The deployment will reach unserved broadband customers using Occam Networks' BLC 6000 multiservice access platforms at distances of 40,000 feet and beyond by utilizing MIMO-on-DMT technology from Positron. This deployment is exactly what the US Government's Broadband Stimulus Package targets, the expansion of broadband to Rural America.

"We use the Aktino products from Positron to provide high bandwidth backhaul via bonded copper wires," explains Gregory Schuett, Technologies Manager for Sacred Wind. "The bandwidth is significantly higher than equivalent T1 connections and more reliable as well. The combined Positron and Occam solution delivers broadband access to Ojo Amarillo and Canyoncito serving areas. Using the existing copper allowed us to quickly deliver services at a low cost versus the extended process of getting construction permits for fiber and disturbing sacred lands to reach our customer base".

Sacred Wind Communications has recently been named one of three finalists in the American Express / NBC Universal "Shine a Light" contest that recognizes community focused small businesses. The contest will reward a small business for its unique approach in serving its customers in the form of a cash grant for business and marketing purposes.

"We began our company in December 2006, walking onto the Navajo Reservation, where fewer than four homes out of every 10 had access to basic phone service," explains John Badal, CEO Sacred Wind. "Using a USDA/RUS low interest loan, we've upgraded the copper system and integrated that with our newly built wireless system, all atop an IP platform."

"We are excited about the opportunity to help Sacred Wind reach unserved customers with the Aktino product line," says Claude Brisson, COO of Positron Access. "It validates the edge in performance that the Aktino products have over other bonded solutions."

"The Aktino product has been deployed with Occam's BLC 6000 multiservice access platforms in North America with success," explains Russ Sharer, VP of Marketing for Occam. "The Positron backhaul solutions permit our broadband systems to be deployed at extended reaches of 40 Kft and beyond, allowing expedited delivery of broadband services to unserved rural customers utilizing existing copper infrastructure."
