Party supplies e-retailer's Intelligent Site Search cited as key reason for award by judging panel

intelligent search mechanism and logical up-sell recommendations integrated with the shopping experience

SLI Systems, provider of on-demand, intelligent search services for Internet and e-commerce sites, announced today that customer Century Novelty has received the 2009 Multichannel Merchant (MCM) Silver Award for Small Merchant, recognized as a stand-out e-commerce site. The judges cited's "intelligent search mechanism and logical up-sell recommendations integrated with the shopping experience" as key reasons for the award.

SLI's Learning Search hosted site search solution powers and makes it easier for site visitors to search more than 4,000 products for the items they seek. With SLI, Century Novelty is able to offer several options for search refinements to better help customers hone in on the specific product they're looking for, and it also offers suggestions for alternate search terms - based on others' search activity - that might generate better results. Shoppers can also sort results by various criteria: lowest price, highest price, popularity, new arrivals and highest rated.

Century Novelty began working with SLI nearly two years ago, and as a result the company has seen a significant increase in the stickiness of its site search results pages. For example, customers on average spend 57% more time on a search results page than other pages, and they're 30% less likely to exit the site from search results pages than from other pages.

Century Novelty also uses SLI's user-generated SEO solution - Site Champion - which optimizes site search results pages with 'related search links' based on other visitors' search activities, which help boost Century Novelty's ranking for specific keywords on Google, Yahoo! and other search engines. Traffic driven to through Site Champion converts at a rate 354% higher than the site average and generates about five percent of total revenue; additionally, the average order size of these visitors is approximately 21% higher than the site average.

"SLI's site search has significantly improved the online experience for our customers," said Ian MacDonald, vice president and general manager for Century Novelty. "We were very excited to win the Multichannel Merchant award, knowing that our site search was a key component of their selection of us - but we're even more excited by the bottom line results we see each month."

"Site search is becoming an ever more popular way to navigate web sites, and companies that deploy an intelligent site search solution can reap great rewards in the way of higher click-throughs and conversions," said Shaun Ryan, president and CEO of SLI Systems. "A good site search solution can be a key way for e-commerce companies like Century Novelty to see more purchase activity on their sites. Additionally, rich information from site search analytics can be useful to e-commerce managers as they make decisions about products to sell, keywords to include in product descriptions and what terms to use for SEO and paid search campaigns."
