Norwalk, CT (PRWEB) October 14, 2009
The Norwalk Emergency Shelter, a not-for-profit organization that provides 95-plus beds for homeless men, women and families, was the beneficiary of community service on 9/11 from Adaptive Marketing LLC, a Norwalk-based premier online provider of membership and loyalty programs designed to give consumers access to savings and services. Adaptive Marketing organized the effort as a way to for employees to contribute services on September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance.
Company employees left their desks and went offline to deliver hands-on services by cleaning up the grounds housing complexes, filling bags of trash and weeds and adding a personal touch in front of each doorstep.
According to Adaptive Marketing's Janine LaBadia, who organized the volunteer effort at the emergency shelter, "For all of us, September 11, 2001 is a reminder that we are all one community, and all one world. By pulling a weed, or just planting a flower, we were all tangibly giving back. At any moment, like on 9/11, men, women and families can need emergency shelter. We were happy to spend a day to make this feel more like home."
On average, 91 people stay at the Norwalk Emergency Shelter per night, and it is frequently full.
"We thank the Adaptive team for being community leaders who rolled up their sleeves to make our shelter more like home," said Carole Antonetz, the shelter's executive director, "They even added door mats and potted plants outside of each door at the complex."
According to Serve.gov
This year we commemorated the first September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance. The tragic events of September 11, 2001 inspired Americans to come together in a remarkable spirit of unity and compassion. It was a stark reminder that our fate as individuals is inherently tied to the fate of our nation. Eight years later, September 11 continues to evoke strong emotion and is homage to sacrifice and a call to action.
