New Boundary Technologies® today announced the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has awarded it U.S. Patent 7,568,018. This patent protects the company's proprietary configuration groups and the "dynamic identification and administration of networked clients."

Configuration groups are the foundation of New Boundary Technologies' Smart Update™ technology. This technology deploys PC policies with pinpoint accuracy and automatically targets computers with the right software, update or patch. Smart Update also allows IT administrators to continuously monitor, secure and heal Windows-based PC settings in real-time.

Smart Update technology is engrained throughout New Boundary Technologies' Prism Suite®, the company's integrated Windows configuration management solution featuring fully automated software deployment, IT asset management (ITAM) and patch management capabilities. Smart Update is also core to New Boundary Technologies' policy-driven Policy Commander® and PwrSmart™ products, which secure PCs to comply with corporate/regulatory standards and configure PC power management settings respectively.

"Our customers quickly appreciate the power of Smart Update technology and its ability to significantly streamline PC configuration management activities -- saving time and money by doing away with cumbersome and complex manual remediation and configuration processes," said Tom Diamond, president of New Boundary Technologies. "This patent presents us a clear competitive differentiator, and our Smart Update technology will continue to drive companies large and small to switch to Prism Suite, Policy Commander and PwrSmart for their configuration management needs."

Additional Configuration Groups Details

Unlike most device identification and configuration methods, New Boundary Technologies' configuration groups allow IT administrators to:

  • Group and take action on devices based on granular configurations -- such as software application, hard-disk configuration, CPU manufacturer, network configuration, disk space, memory configuration, etc. -- and not just device identity or name.
  • Perform actions on devices based on their exact configuration when the action is to be carried out; not based on time-sensitive and pre-dated queries that become void when even a single device configuration changes.
  • Replace repeated, time-consuming scans with a "set-and-forget" process that continuously checks device states -- including unstable states, viruses or other issues -- and automatically performs specified configuration tasks to correct problems.
