Boy Scout Eagle Project Results in New Sign for Historical Location

The Historic Fielder House in Arlington, Texas is the recipient of a brand new sign, alerting all who pass by its location, that this is where the past becomes a present to the future. Opened as a museum in 1980 after a group of local citizens campaigned for its preservation and restoration, the Fielder House is in current use by the Arlington Historical Society to collect, preserve and interpret local and county historical materials. It remains one of the City's best little known secrets.

Euless, TX (PRWEB) October 15, 2009 -- The Historic Fielder House in Arlington, Texas is the recipient of a brand new sign, alerting all who pass by its location, that this is where the past becomes a present to the future. Opened as a museum in 1980 after a group of local citizens campaigned for its preservation and restoration, the Fielder House is in current use by the Arlington Historical Society to collect, preserve and interpret local and county historical materials. It remains one of the City's best little known secrets.

This summer, local Boy Scout Matthew Schmitt started looking for a service project as part of his Eagle Scout project, and contacted Geraldine Mills, director of the Arlington Historical Society. They decided that a new sign would benefit the location and qualify as a community service project.

Mills, Historical Society Director for almost 15 years, works together with the Historical Society Board to preserve the grounds and continually enhance the museum's offerings. A new sign had been on her wish list, to replace the one that had been installed almost 30 years ago.

The sign's original manufacturer, Federal Sign, now Federal Heath Sign, has continued to operate as a local Dallas/Fort Worth business. The company answered Eagle Scout candidate Schmitt's inquiry and agreed to manufacture and donate a new sign to the Fielder House.

The Fielder House has several permanent collections as well as changing annual exhibits, including a very popular collection of WWII artifacts. The museum's 2010 exhibit will honor the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America, as they celebrate 100 years of Scouting in America.
