Percussion Software, provider of web content management software for customers with diverse web infrastructures, announced today that the National Cancer Institute (NCI) has selected Percussion CM System to power its official web site, Cancer.gov. NCI cited the ability to tightly integrate web analytics and social networking while still being able to use their extensive .NET infrastructure as a central element leading to Percussion's selection.
NCI, the U.S. government's principal agency for cancer research, uses its web presence to aggregate content and provide easy access to resources for cancer researchers, health professionals, patients and their families, advocates, news media, and the public.
A division of the U.S. National Institutes of Health and part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), NCI will leverage Percussion to increase interactivity on Cancer.gov and optimize the site's effectiveness in:
- Recruiting donors and volunteers
- Empowering cancer survivors, researchers, and friends to share information and experiences
- Informing scientists and citizens of research developments
Critical to achieving these goals is CM System's adaptive architecture, which allows customers to publish content in the way their front end needs it. This flexibility will enable the delivery of dynamic content in NCI's familiar ASP.NET programming environment, as well as the ability to cost-effectively scale while managing thousands of pages of detailed research information.
While Percussion is the web content management system of choice for other HHS departments, NCI chose to embark on a vetting of numerous content management platforms. The rigorous selection process included thorough business and technology user evaluations of three final competing systems and revealed Percussion's high degree of usability and technological flexibility.
The U.S. National Cancer Institute (NCI), part of the National Institutes of Health and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, was established by Congress in 1937. NCI's main responsibilities include coordinating the National Cancer Program; conducting and supporting cancer-related research; training physicians and scientists; and disseminating state-of-the-art information about cancer detection, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, control, palliative care, and survivorship.
Percussion provides Web Content Management Services that drive business results through multiple online channels including websites, intranets, blogs, and mobile devices. Percussion's Adaptive Architecture allows non-technical users to take control of content and presentation, provides a low-friction path to access and re-use third party content, and allows a business to pursue new opportunities without being encumbered by legacy technology. Percussion has been helping a broad cross-section of corporations, institutions and agencies generate online results, including Hotwire.com, Virginia Tech University, Kohl's, Computer Associates, AutoTrader.com, and the U.S. Department of State.
