APOP says 44 percent of indoor dogs are obese. Pet-Super-Store responds to APOP 2008 canine obesity report by including new products that encourage physical activity in domesticated animals.

We've seen an increase in sales since then, and as a personal pet owner, its very encouraging to see owners care about their pet's physical activity.

In July 2009, the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention reported a 9.6 percent increase in canine obesity since 2007. In reaction, Pet-Super-Store.com leash and harness products have become extremely popular.

"One of the reasons we added collars, harnesses and leashes to our fall 2009 collection was to encourage physical activity in dogs," said Victoria Knight, PR Director of Pet-Super-Store.com. "We've seen an increase in sales since then, and as a personal pet owner, its very encouraging to see owners care about their pet's physical activity."

The APOP found nearly 44 percent of dogs are obese, this is nearly 7.2 million dogs. Dr. Ernie Ward, founder of APOP, explains indoor dogs have the greatest obesity risk.

"A few extra pounds on a dog is like 30-50 pounds over weight on a person," explained Dr. Ward in an APOP press release.

Obesity is a leading cause of death in canines. Increasing your pet's physical activity with a quality leash or harness can aid in the prevention of this disease.
