The commitment of David and Tiffany Ortiz to the children of New England and the Dominican Republic is truly inspiring. Boston, MA (PRWEB) October 20, 2009
Winter may be around the corner… but golf season isn't over yet! On December 3-6, 2009, Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz will host the second annual David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Classic at Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic. The star-studded event benefits the David Ortiz Children's Fund, providing children in New England and the Dominican Republic access to the pediatric critical care they need to live full and productive lives.
The inaugural David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Classic in 2008 raised over $300,000. At the tournament, David was joined by MLB players Alex Rodriguez, Mariano Rivera, Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins, Pedro Martinez and Tim Wakefield as well as sports legends Jim Rice, John Havlicek and Bobby Orr, among many others. Many of these players along with a host of other celebrities are expected to return in 2009.
The annual event is held at Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic, one of the most spectacular resort communities in the world. Guests will stay at the five-star luxury Sanctuary Cap Cana Golf & Spa, overlooking the turquoise waters and pristine beaches of the Caribbean Sea.
The tournament itself will take place at the Jack Nicklaus-design and signature golf course, Punta Espada. The 72-hole resort, selected as The Best Golf Course in the Caribbean and Mexico by Golf Week Magazine, has eight holes that play spectacularly along the Caribbean Sea, with stunning views of the white sand beaches.
"I am looking forward to gathering with all my friends for the second annual David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Tournament," said David Ortiz. "It is a wonderful opportunity to showcase my home country - the Dominican Republic - while raising money for children who can't afford the healthcare they need. Everyone who participates is making a difference in the lives of these children."
The David Ortiz Children's Fund began as a way for David to help children in his home country. The Fund is proud to partner with Heart Care Dominicana, International Hospital for Children, and the Massachusetts General Hospital to fulfill its life-saving mission, linking pediatric critical care services to children in developing countries. To date, the Fund has raised over $1M for children in New England and the Dominican Republic and has given life, health, and hope to critically ill Dominican children.
"The commitment of David and Tiffany Ortiz to the children of New England and the Dominican Republic is truly inspiring. To date, more than 100 children have received the critical heart surgeries they needed - surgeries they would not have been able to afford without the efforts of the David Ortiz Charitable Fund," said Nelva Pelaez of Heart Care Dominicana. "We look forward to the second annual Charity Golf Classic and to working closely with the Fund to continue making a difference for children in need."
