Testek Inc was selected by the US Airforce to supply over 250 quantity of Portable, Trailer Mounted Load Banks, a multi-year contract.

In the late 2007 year Testek began shipping the first production Portable Trailer Mounted Load Banks (PTMLB) units, NSN 6625-01-539-5683, to the US Air Force. After successful completion of the technical evaluation of the load bank at key US Air Force installations, several improvements to the operator interface were suggested. The PTMLB employs a micro controller that made these improvements fairly easy to implement with changes to the controller firmware. This feature will also allow for future firmware upgrades if needed or desired.

The PTMLB is a major advance in capability, versatility and ease of use. The load bank is capable of providing a 100 kW load for all the common 60 Hz and 400 Hz voltage inputs, both 3 phase and single phase. In addition, there is up to 100 kW, 270 VDC load and it has a 28 VDC load capacity of 20 kW continuous and 70 kW for one minute. The load bank design even allows for using any AC voltage simultaneously with a 28 or 270 VDC load.

The operation and instrumentation are all available to the operator through a Vacuum Florescent Display (VFD) and a simple keypad. Using a micro controller allows the PTMLB to be setup quickly without a lot of complex reconfiguration that was required with older systems used by the USAF.

The PTMLB features purely resistive sealed load elements, unlike wound wire "door spring" load elements, are not exposed to the environment. The sealed elements stand up to vibration and are not prone to breakage, sagging or shorting out even in the worst conditions. The PTMLB is designed to give the US Air Force many years of dependable service.
