AmeriGlide Announces Fall 2009 Scholarship Recepient

AmeriGlide has announced that the winner of the Fall 2009 AmeriGlide Achiever Scholarship is Rosonna Ennis of Delaware, OK.

Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) October 22, 2009 -- Ameriglide is pleased to announce the winner of the fall $500 AmeriGlide Achiever Scholarship: Rosonna Ennis of Delaware, Okla. Her essay discussed mobility solutions for wheelchair users on college campuses.

The AmeriGlide Achiever Scholarship is available to college students who use a manual or electric wheelchair and maintain a 3.0 GPA. The scholarship is awarded twice annually and Ms. Ennis' essay was selected from a pool of nearly one hundred submissions and six finalists.

The essays were evaluated based on how well they answered the question and how well the author demonstrated a creative problem-solving approach to the issues. According to David Ward, a member of the 5-person panel of judges, settling on a winner was no easy task.

"We received many great essays this time around," Ward said. "Picking a winner isn't usually easy, but this time the decision was particularly difficult. We want to thank everyone who participated and sent in these thoughtful essays."

Applicants for the AmeriGlide Achiever Scholarship were asked to send in a 500-word essay that answers one of the following questions:

What area of your school do you think would benefit from improved accessibility and how would you improve it?

What area of your school do you feel has excellent accessibility, and why?

"Ms. Ennis' response was thoughtful, provocative, and contained several great ideas that schools and other public facilities could implement to better assist wheelchair users without having to remodel their buildings," Ward said.

The semi-annual AmeriGlide Achiever Scholarship began in 2008 as a way to reach out to the disabled community and reward outstanding students for their accomplishments. The spring 2010 AmeriGlide Achiever Scholarship will be awarded in January 2010. The deadline for applications is December 31, 2009. AmeriGlide looks forward to another highly competitive contest.
