New York, NY (PRWEB) October 21, 2009
Wimba® Inc., the education technology company that helps people teach people, today announced a new executive team will lead the company as it expands to meet the growing opportunities for collaboration within education.
Carol Vallone will lead the team as Chief Executive Officer as well as continuing to serve as chairman of the board, a position she has held for the last three years. Vallone has been Wimba's acting CEO for the last six months and brings to her role a proven track record of success as WebCT's co-founder and former CEO. Her experience in growing WebCT from a start-up to its merger with Blackboard, along with her extensive industry, board and government policy advisory, work has made Vallone a sought-after industry pundit.
"I'm thrilled to be back in education and so excited to build on Wimba's award-winning platform," said Vallone. "I'm most interested in leveraging the power of collaboration to benefit all members of an institution - students, instructors, and administrators - and addressing the multifaceted challenges of education, both academic and administrative."
Barb Ross and Karen Gage join the executive team as co-Chief Operating Officers.
Ross, having acted as COO for the last six months, is responsible for the strategic direction and operational management of products and services. Ross brings over 20 years of experience managing educational technology and methodology companies, most notably as co-founder and COO at WebCT. Gage, who recently contributed to Wimba's strategic planning, will focus on marketing, publishing solutions and business development. To this role Gage brings over 15 years of experience in leading marketing organizations, managing products and analyzing B2B software markets, including time at WebCT as Senior Vice President of Marketing and at Blackboard as Vice President of Product Strategy.
Jim Thibeau will continue to serve on the executive team as Senior Vice President of Global Services, a role he has held since 2008. Thibeau brings over 20 years of service and consulting experience with software and system integration companies, including time at WebCT and Blackboard.
"This executive team has a proven track record of success. They are intimately familiar with the opportunities and challenges in education but equally important, they know how to effectively deliver innovative solutions to meet those needs," said Carmen Scarpa, Wimba board member and Partner at Tudor Ventures. "Wimba is already impacting thousands of institutions and schools around the world. Under the leadership of this team I expect Wimba to build on its foundation and take collaborative technology to new heights."
