Ninth Annual Health Fair in Memory of Dr. Dhaliwal's Parents to give back to Community

Free Annual Health Fair is organized by Dr. Gunwant Dhaliwal and his wife Dr. Tejinder Dhaliwal in memory of their parents in Sikh Temple at Thonotosassa, Florida. It is an annual ritual to give back to community every year in October on second Sunday.

New Port Richey, Florida (PRWEB) October 22, 2009 -- Free Annual Health Fair is organized by Dr. Gunwant Dhaliwal and his wife Dr. Tejinder Dhaliwal in memory of their parents in Sikh Temple at Thonotosassa, Florida. It is an annual ritual to give back to community every year in October on second Sunday.

This year, 9th Annual Health Fair was held on Sunday, 11th October from 10 AM to 1 PM at Tampa Gurudwara Sahib located at 15302 Morris Bridge Road, Thonotosassa, FL 33592. This year response was overwhelming. Total of 315 Seasonal Flu shots were given; 115 to the Gurudwara Community and 200 to the local neighbors around the Gurudwara in Thonotosassa. Blood sugar was checked on 170 people and Blood pressure check on 220. Besides these check ups, Educational literature on various diseases is distributed to all the visitors. This is in comparison to 2001 when only 60 flu shots were given, 56 to the gurudwara Community and 4 outside neighbors. Then it continued to escalate between 200 to 400.

Budget: $10,000 every year

Background: Annual Health Fair was started in 2001 by family of Gunwant S Dhaliwal, MD and Tejinder K Dhaliwal, MD in memory of their parents Late Mrs. Davinder Kaur and Late Dr. Jaswant Singh Dhaliwal in collaboration with USREF to provide Free Preventive Medical Care to Gurudwara Community Members and Neighbors every year.

Dr. Gunwant Dhaliwal is a Board Certified Internist practicing in New Port Richey (Pasco County) for over 16 years while his wife Dr. Tejinder Dhaliwal is an Anesthesiologist at local MPM North Bay Hospital for 12 years. Both are accompanied every year by Gulf View Walk In Clinic Administrator Ms. Ratinder Sidhu (Dr. Tejinder Dhaliwal's sister) and Amol, 12 year old Dr. Dhaliwal's son. Ms. Naza Martic, manager of the clinic never missed an opportunity to volunteer for the health fair.

Dr. Darshan Singh, Dr. Gursagar Singh, Dr. Tejinder Glamor and Dr. Sondhi are always there to represent Turbaned Sikhs to educate all the visitors about the Sikhs and the Sikh Religion.
