Share Article

TelecoWorks sponsored Celebrate Green I.T., a fun-filled free program at the Academy of Natural Sciences on Oct. 20, 2009. At Celebrate Green I.T., environmentally conscious I.T. and Business Technology professionals met, laughed, learned, and discovered ways to help their planet, companies, and careers.

Celebrate Green I.T. event attendees had an enjoyable time, while learning a multitude of ways to contribute to the good of the planet, as well as focusing on:

1. How to use information technology by helping organizations operate and interact more efficiently and effectively.
2. How to reduce the negative environmental impact of information technology, by managing information, equipment and processes to use fewer resources. Also, by managing supplies and equipment for safe disposal and re-use.

The program included a Celebrate Green I.T. success story, presented by Joe Tait, CIO of NMS Labs in Willow Grove. Guests listened to Joe's story of how he "greened" his company and saw more success because of it! Following Joe Tait, attendees thrilled over the performance troupe Quiet Riot.

They took the audience on a 4 billion year joyride through the History of Oil, bringing us to our present twin challenges: Peak Oil & Climate Change. Quiet Riot uses comedy, storytelling, music, and sound effects to create expressive and meaningful events.

TelecoWork's President, Valerie Brauckman Burgess stressed how a stable, wide area network can help customers establish virtual offices, collaborate remotely via the Internet, and save travel dollars by utilizing teleconferencing. Burgess told the audience, "I.T. Departments have the opportunity to move from just a cost center to becoming the touchstone of strategic green initiatives for the
entire company."
