The event was held on October 21, 2009 in Washington DC, during which the achievements of important Afghan women from past and present were honored. In addition, A-AWA effectively introduced its goals and mission to the audience. Businesses, professionals, governmental organizations, and other non profits were invited to join A-AWA's database of assistance. This database will be used to assist members of the Afghan American community and newly arrived refugees. A-AWA also announced its ambitious plan to gain funding for an Afghan American Community Center. This event was made possible with the hard work and commitment of A-AWA's members and sponsors. TriVision Studios, a Virginia based marketing and media company, was instrumental in making A-AWA's launch possible.

A-AWA is a non-profit organization that seeks to enrich the lives of Afghan-American women by establishing closer relationships and understanding between Afghan-American women through cultural, educational, charitable, and social activities and providing opportunities for volunteerism and leadership in the Afghan-American community.
