Following dGB Earth Sciences announcing OpendTect v4 change to free license, PDF3D Plug-in released with new license terms, enabling extended seismic interpretation community to publish to 3D PDF.

ARK CLS, a leading provider of advanced solutions for geophysical exploration and analysis, in partnership with Visual Technology Services, announces updated license terms for the production of 3D PDF documents from OpendTect v4, greatly improving communication of complex seismic interpretations. ARK CLS is offering the OpendTect commercial plug-in for publishing models using PDF3D® free to academic users, giving enhanced and innovative workflow methods to collaborate among technical partners. The new version is shown at the ARK CLS booth #2206, SEG conference, Houston, 25-30 October 2009 with immediate availability.

As dGB Earth Sciences (http://www.dgbes.com) has changed the OpendTect seismic interpretation system to a triple license model of GPL, commercial and academic options, the PDF3D (http://www.pdf3d.co.uk) commercial plug-in is similarly updated for commercial and free academic licenses. The PDF3D plug-in to OpendTect allows volume sections, horizons, and interpretation features to be embedded within a secure technical report and is available for immediate download. The new PDF3D Plug-in is available for Linux 32 and 64 bit systems, with improved ability to select horizon resolution in the final 3D PDF report.

“We are seeing a lot of interest in the PDF3D plug-in which perfectly complements other seismic analysis plug-ins. Most OpendTect users will benefit from this, especially academic partners using the free academic license option, as they now have access to commercial plug-ins. The new capability is really getting significant attention in the G&G community and we are very pleased with the partnership of Visual Technology Services.” Reports Adrian Bennetton, ARK CLS founder (http://www.arkcls.com).

With the PDF3D plug-in, a 3D scene in OpendTect can be captured and saved in PDF-format. The saved file can be opened in the standard and free Adobe® Reader that nowadays supports 3D visualization. Here the user can zoom, rotate, change transparency and toggle elements on and off. PDF3D is bound to change the way in which E&P work is reported to management, colleagues and partners.
