The Poet Appears on a Game Show
Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) October 27, 2009
North Carolina writer Maureen Sherbondy has won first place in the Carrie McCray Memorial Literary Award for her poem, "The Poet Appears on a Game Show". The award was presented at the South Carolina Writers' Workshop Conference on October 23rd in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Carrie McCray Memorial Literary Award is named in honor of one of SCWW's founding members.
Sherbondy received 500 dollars and a framed certificate. "I am thrilled that my poem was chosen as the winner in the poetry category. Poets rarely receive money for their craft. How wonderful to receive monetary compensation for doing what I love to do."
Sherbondy's two poetry collections are After the Fairy Tale (Main Street Rag Publishing, 2007) and Praying at Coffee Shops (Main Street Rag Publishing, 2008). The Slow Vanishing (Main Street Rag Publishing, 2009), her debut short-story collection, was recently named a finalist in the Fiction & Literature category of the USA Book News National Best Books 2009 Awards.
