The World's Most Famous Arena
Bethpage, NY (PRWEB) October 26, 2009
Cablevision Systems Corp. (NYSE: CVC) today announced that free Optimum WiFi wireless Internet access is now available throughout Madison Square Garden. With more than 100 access points installed within The Garden, getting online while enjoying an event at "The World's Most Famous Arena" has never been easier.
The first major indoor deployment of Optimum WiFi includes access in the arena, main lobby, concession areas and restaurants. Visitors using portable WiFi-enabled devices like Smartphones can experience limited free access to Optimum WiFi, while Optimum Online customers enjoy unlimited access.
"Optimum WiFi has proven to be enormously popular with our customers, and we could not be more pleased to be able to make this fast and free wireless Internet access available throughout The Garden," said Kevin Curran, Cablevision's senior vice president of wireless development. "Particularly with the explosion of Web-enabled hand-held devices and demands on cellular data services in the city, we think Optimum WiFi is going to be a very important and useful enhancement, especially for Optimum Online customers visiting The Garden."
Optimum WiFi is also broadly available in high-traffic and commercial locations like downtown areas, parks and other outdoor locations across Cablevision's New York, New Jersey and Connecticut service areas. The network spans thousands of access points, including outdoor availability at almost all of the Long Island Railroad and Metro North railroad platforms and parking lots in Cablevision's service area. More information on Optimum WiFi, including detailed coverage maps, is available at http://www.optimumwifi.com.
Since its launch in September of 2008, Optimum Online customers have accessed the Internet more than five million times for free over Optimum WiFi, and are averaging more than two million minutes online every day over the network. Offering downstream speeds of up to 3 megabits-per-second (Mbps), Optimum WiFi is more than twice as fast as many expensive cell phone data plans that can cost upwards of $100 per month.
