Mornin' Old Sport Set To Release Debut EP

Cambridge's YMCA Theater - October 29, 2009 at 7 p.m.

Boston, MA (PRWEB) October 28, 2009 -- Plato once said, "Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything."

Nowhere is that more true than in the music of Mornin' old Sport, a six-piece collaboration based in Allston, Massachusetts. Each of the members of MOS has attended Berklee School of Music in Boston, one of the premier headquarters of musical excellence. The band is comprised of singer/songwriters Zebulon "Zeb" Krol (keys, guitar) and Scott Nanos (keys, banjo), as well as Brian S. Arnold (horns), Jeff Price (drums), Dave Stallings (bass) and Kate Smeal (guitar, keys, vocals).

The sextet is celebrating the release of their first EP, Mourning Sickness, by renting out the Cambridge YMCA Theater, located at 820 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge for a concert on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 7 p.m. The cost of admission for the night is $10, which includes a copy of the EP. The entire show will be videotaped and then broken down into individual songs for You Tube.

Zeb and Scott were already friends and got together one night before a birthday party, having decided to write a song as their gift. The experience was so encouraging that they knew they had to make more music together. Scott not only brought the others in - starting with Jeff, Brian, Dave and finally Kate, but is the glue that holds the band together. "When we started, we called ourselves Wiffle Bat," says Zeb, the band's "spokesman." "Unfortunately, due to trademark issues with the makers of the wiffle® ball, the band was forced to find a new name. This will be our first show with our new name, and will start with a funeral march signifying the ending of one era and the dawning of a new one."

Adds Kate, "We are frustrated, as musicians and as music lovers, with the tendency of most bands to merely walk onto the stage, perform, and then walk off without ever engaging the audience. Our band encourages audience participation. We want our live performance to reflect and expand upon our music, and showcase our diverse musical backgrounds, which include jazz, folk, musical theater, country and classical."

Brian sums it up, "What makes our music unique is that multiple people take the lead at different times. What ties it all together is the lyrics and the storyline. Our music runs the gamut of genres and includes lots of different instrumentation because we believe there is quality in every genre and in every instrument. There are numerous themes running through our music, among them love, hate, revenge, but the lyrics tie them all together."
