Nitto Tire has partnered with some of the most sought-after performance builders in the industry to create three must-see project cars for the 2009 SEMA show. The vehicles, which include a 2010 Jeep Wrangler JK, Lingenfelter-tuned Corvette ZR1 and a custom one-off Lingenfelter Performance Engineering (LPE) T/A, are all equipped with Nitto's newest performance tires, each selected to enhance the performance of the vehicles. All three will be on display at Nitto's booth located on the first floor of South Hall, booth number 46115.
Almost as soon as the 2010 Camaro was announced, LPE was dreaming up a performance-tuned version styled like the iconic 1973 Pontiac Trans Am. LPE first modified the engine, inserting a custom RHS aluminum engine block with 455 cubic inches of displacement. Other under-the-hood modifications include high compression pistons, a forged crankshaft, and ported and polished heads. These bring the final power output to 655 horsepower and 610 lbs-ft of torque. The biggest transformation, however, took place on the exterior, which was completely customized to resemble the classic bodylines of the Pontiac Trans Am. The finishing touches include 20-inch custom Honeycomb wheels wrapped in Nitto's max performance street tire, the NT05, sized 275/40ZR20 up front and 315/35ZR20 for the rear. With its precise and responsive handling, the NT05 is the perfect complement to the Lingenfelter T/A.
Alongside the Lingenfelter T/A is another domestic performance machine: the 2009 Chevy Corvette ZR1. Lingenfelter Performance Engineering took the fastest production Corvette ever made and made it faster. On top of the stock LS9 6.2-liter engine and Eaton Roots-type supercharger, LPE added performance parts to create the ultimate street legal Corvette. The proof is in the numbers: 739 wheel horsepower and 720 lbs-ft of torque. With all this horsepower, the ZR1 needed a tire capable of getting it to the road. The tire of choice was the Nitto's brand-new NT05R drag radial. Nitto developed the world's first 19-inch drag radial, sized 345/30R19, specifically for C6 Corvettes. The NT05R's brand-new compound and construction help harness the full power of this ZR1, which is capable of reaching 60 mph in 2.62 seconds and running the quarter mile in 10.03 seconds at 141mph.
Rounding out Nitto's booth is the "Adventurer," a 2010 Jeep JK Wrangler Unlimited built by Off Road Evolution. The "Adventurer" was built for the core JK enthusiast, making it the ultimate weekend warrior vehicle. Off Road Evolution completely updated the suspension with the new Adventurer Series short arm kit, King Shock Technology direct replacement long travel shocks, rear control arm skids, and Off Road evolution front RockStop air bump system. These modifications yield approximately 14 inches of articulation. No suspension setup would be complete without tires. Nitto equipped the new Trail Grappler M/T sized 35x12.50R17 for its balance of on-road comfort and off-road performance. With its aggressive and quiet pattern, the Trail Grappler M/T is the perfect match for enthusiasts looking for weekend adventures and every day driving.
