EDC is proud to support this event and to welcome EvoNexus into our community
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) October 30, 2009
EvoNexus today announced it will celebrate the opening of its new 25,000 square foot Sorrento Valley facility donated by Cricket Communications with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, November 2, 2009. Guests at the event will include more than 180 business and government leaders from San Diego. The Honorable Jerry Sanders, Mayor of San Diego will be speaking and participating in the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The entire event is sponsored by the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation.
"EDC is proud to support this event and to welcome EvoNexus into our community," said Julie Meier Wright, President & CEO, San Diego Regional EDC. "The high tech industry is a critical component of our innovation economy, and EvoNexus will play a key role in its continued growth in our region."
In February of 2009, Vice Admiral Walt Davis and CommNexus CEO, Rory Moore envisioned a technology business incubator that would be different than other incubators and that would allow the entrepreneur to get to the proof of concept stage with no encumbrances. In June of 2009, CommNexus announced that it would assist with the formation of EvoNexus as a non-profit organization for the purpose of incubating start-up companies in the high tech industry in San Diego. Less than six months later, EvoNexus is supporting three start-up companies, Medipacs, IO Semiconductor and Pixon Imaging with fully furnished facilities, utilities, mentoring, education and other services donated by companies and individuals in the San Diego high tech community.
"Both Vice Admiral Davis and I have started companies where raising hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars of venture capital was the first order of business, and not putting the focus where it should be, getting to the concept stage as fast a possible," stated Rory Moore, CEO of CommNexus and EvoNexus board member. "EvoNexus will give its start ups that extra edge."
Ribbon-cutting event highlights include the announcement of new companies accepted into the incubator, the honoring of EvoNexus volunteers and of individual and corporate sponsors, tours of the new facility, the opportunity to meet the incubated companies, and speeches from Mayor Jerry Sanders, John Major, Chairman of CommNexus, Julie Meier Wright, President & CEO of San Diego Regional EDC, Doug Hutcheson, President & CEO of Cricket Communications, Rick Kornfeld, Chairman of EvoNexus and Vice-chairman of CommNexus, Cathy Pucher, Executive Director of EvoNexus, Rory Moore, CEO of CommNexus and Board Director of EvoNexus, and Mark McWilliams, CEO of Medipacs.
"We are thrilled with the enthusiasm we have seen for EvoNexus from the local community," said Cathy Pucher, Executive Director of EvoNexus. "The unprecedented economic climate in San Diego today has made it necessary for many of our best and brightest to start new companies, to innovate. And the generous donations from our sponsors and volunteers are making it possible."
The invitation-only event will begin at 11:30 AM, and the speaker program will begin at 12:00 PM. A press briefing and facility tours will take place immediately preceding the event at 10:00 AM.
