Growing Small Business F.J. Westcott Gets Help with ERP Software Selection from TEC

Photography equipment distributor F.J. Westcott contracts TEC for comprehensive and objective guidance in ERP evaluation and selection project

Montreal, QC (PRWEB) November 2, 2009 -- F.J. Westcott, a photographic equipment distributor based in Toledo, Ohio (US), recently discovered its legacy system could no longer keep up with its growing business. However, Westcott realized it needed to do its homework before jumping into the purchase of a new enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. Company executives, including chief financial officer (CFO) Jeff Cohen, did just that by attending an ERP Vendor Shootout moderated by Technology Evaluation Centers (TEC) (http://www.technologyevaluation.com).

These biannual events are intended to simplify the ERP selection process for companies with manufacturing, distribution, and project-oriented requirements, by hosting top ERP packages demonstrations side by side. Westcott found TEC's comprehensive and structured software evaluation and selection methodology could determine which, out of the hundreds of ERP systems on the market, was the best-fit for its evolving business.

TEC's best practice approach to software evaluation allowed Westcott, a company of 19 employees, to sort through the immense volume of information related to ERP software and to separate marketing rhetoric from fact. Westcott was able to better understand its current ERP processes, and identify existing gaps and future functional requirements. TEC's requirements set, containing over 8,000 vendor criteria in the form of convenient spreadsheets, made it easy for Westcott to prioritize its business needs. In just two months, Westcott had its long list of vendors, and three weeks later had its short list of solutions to evaluate for selection and implementation.

"There was simply no way we could have evaluated as many vendors as we did, without TEC's comprehensive and systematic methodology" affirms Cohen. "The project would likely have taken twice as long, and our decision would have been based on far more subjective factors."
