New York, NY (PRWEB) November 5, 2009 -- Tutor.com (ww.tutor.com), the largest online tutoring service, announced today that the company's founder and CEO George Cigale accepted an invitation to join the Johns Hopkins University School of Education National Advisory Council. The national council focuses on national and international education issues, including innovative interdisciplinary initiatives and cutting edge technologies that promise to change teaching and learning. Mr. Cigale brings twenty years of education technology experience to the council, which includes university trustees, business leaders and educators.

"I am honored to work with such a prestigious institution with a long history of making an impact in how we prepare our teachers and educate our children," said Cigale. "Johns Hopkins University School of Education plays an important role in driving education reforms and the National Advisory Council will provide strategic thinking around how tomorrow's education system and its leaders need to innovate to best serve our country's most important resource - our students."

Mr. Cigale frequently speaks to business leaders, investors and educators about education technologies and tools that schools may adopt to truly transform our nation's classrooms and our students' out-of-school time to empower young people to be more fully engaged in learning.

Most of Mr. Cigale's career has been focused on helping students achieve academic success - from paying his way through college by tutoring students for the SATs to developing new software programs for The Princeton Review. Over a decade ago, Mr. Cigale founded Tutor.com and launched one of the first online tutoring services where a student could connect to a tutor for a one-to-one educational experience in core academic subjects whenever they need help. Tutor.com's award-winning tutoring service is now available through thousands of public and virtual schools, public libraries and private corporations. The service is also available to U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army families.

Mr. Cigale is also a board member of the Poet's House and the Software and Information Industry Association (SIIA) Education Division.
