A practical, inspirational, uplifting show, "Survive and Thrive" sheds light on the healing process from one who has navigated its stages. Susan discusses her own recovery from rape and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and offers advice based on her own experience and those of her featured guests.
"Doctors and psychologists permeate the airwaves, but a rape survivor reaching out to others is a new concept. I think of myself as a 'wounded healer' and I want to communicate that there is life after trauma. I can help relieve suffering by providing helpful information, relevant organizations and pertinent guests," said Susan.
The premiere show features representatives from RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network): VP of. Communications, Katherine Hull and Director of the National Sexual Assault Hotlines, Jennifer Wilson. RAINN is the nation's largest anti-sexual assault organization and was named one of "America's 100 Best Charities" by Worth magazine. RAINN created and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotlines (800.656.HOPE and http://www.rainn.org.) in partnership with over 1,100 local rape crisis centers across the country. The hotlines have helped more than 1.3 million people since 1994. RAINN also carries out programs to prevent sexual assault, help victims and ensure that rapists are brought to justice.
Celebrity spokeswomen, actress Christina Ricci, was recently on Capital Hill urging members of Congress to support increased funding for the National Sexual Assault Hotlines. Such services are particularly important to those who don't have health insurance, said Ricci.
"Survive and Thrive" will cover other topics including domestic violence, soldiers and PTSD, forgiveness, abandonment, depression, Internet pornography, child abuse, and overcoming other adversities.
Guests will run the gamut from models to celebrities to medical experts dedicated to helping survivors. Call-ins are welcome and help will always be provided.
