Rossville native and Staten Island Academy alumnus Julio Vincent Gambuto ‘96 brings his hit one-man show, Julie From Staten Island home to Staten Island for one big one-night-only finale performance.
Staten Island, NY (Vocus/PRWEB ) November 10, 2009 -- After over a year-and-a-half of performances in Times Square, Rossville native and Staten Island Academy alumnus Julio Vincent Gambuto ‘96 brings his hit one-man show home to Staten Island for one big one-night-only finale performance. Staten Island Academy and Julio Vincent Gambuto present “Julie from Staten Island,” Friday, November 20, 2009 at 8PM at the Haugen Hall Auditorium at Staten Island Academy.
“Julie from Staten Island” is a 70-minute one-man comedy that follows performer Julio Vincent Gambuto from the South Shore of Staten Island to the Ivy-covered gates of Harvard University to the streets of South Brooklyn.
“Julie from Staten Island” was produced by Gambuto, and directed by standup veteran Linda Smith, was his first full-production solo comedy event. The 2009 run of “Julie from Staten Island” ended October 24, 2009, at the Studio Theatre at Time Square’s Theatre Row, where the comedy has been running monthly since April 2008. The show also ran in Los Angeles in October 2008, December 2008, and January 2009 at ACME Comedy Theatre. Gambuto is currently in the beginning stages of independent feature development on a film based on the show.
The performance is part of a series of special events marking Staten Island Academy’s 125th anniversary. Other events include the Staten Island Academy Alumni Cabaret on January 9, 2010 and the 125th Anniversary Gala on April 24, 2010. Gambuto graduated from Staten Island Academy in 1996 and attended Harvard University, where he graduated in 2000 with a B.A. cum laude in English and American Literature and Language. While a student at Harvard, Gambuto studied classical theatre and performed with the college’s Harvard-Radcliffe Dramatic Club.
Gambuto is a former resident of Rossville on the South Shore. His family currently lives in Arden Heights, Rossville, and Bloomingdale. He currently resides in Manhattan’s West Village.
The event is 21 and over, due to the adult nature of Gambuto’s comedy. The show will be followed by a Q&A with Gambuto and a post-show reception.

Julio Vincent Gambuto (Writer/Performer) has appeared in the first incarnation of Theatre Askew’s Bald Diva!, as well as the downtown theatre company’s production of The Tempest, as Ariel, and I, Claudius Live! Other credits include: American Triptych (HOMOgenius Festival), So Long Laura Paris, I Google Myself (a new play by Trick scribe Jason Schafer), Don Juan Does New Jersey, Conservatives in Love, and Volcania: The Wedding (Philadelphia Fringe). Julio has appeared in The Nappy Fro Show at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles, California, The Colin Kane Event at Caroline's, New York, and has performed stand-up comedy at The Improv and Room 5 in Los Angeles, and at Caroline’s, Comix, and The Duplex, and The Village Lantern in New York. Linda Smith (Director) is a standup comedy veteran who has appeared on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, HBO’s Women of the Night, and VH-1 Standup Spotlight. A regular performer at Caroline’s on Broadway, Catch a Rising Star, and the Laugh Factory, Smith is a former television writer, having penned for “Shipmates, The Rosie O’Donnell Show, The Caroline Rhea Show, and At The Multiplex with Judy Gold.
