Maine Prep Launches New SAT Prep Classes for Students Applying Early Decision to College
Maine Prep is offering five special SAT prep classes beginning November 19 for high school juniors who plan to apply Early Decision or Early Action to selective colleges. Students have become aware of the significant admissions advantage of applying early. Classes will prepare students for the January or March SAT test. Juniors are advised to begin SAT testing in January or March in order to have time to submit all required tests by the November senior year Early deadline. Maine Prep's classes will take place in Bangor, Brunswick, Cape Elizabeth and Falmouth, Maine.
Brunswick, ME (PRWEB) November 12, 2009 -- Competition for admission to selective colleges can be fierce because of increased numbers of students applying Early Decision. To help Maine high school juniors who plan to apply Early, Maine Prep (http://www.maineprep.com), Maine's largest SAT prep company, is offering five group SAT prep courses throughout the state beginning November 19.
Early Decision applicants are well advised to sit for their first SAT in January or March of their junior year.
In order to have enough time to submit the necessary SAT and two or three SAT Subject Test scores required by most selective colleges, Early Decision applicants are well advised to sit for their first SAT in January or March of their junior year. Doing so will allow applicants to take the SAT a second time in May (when all Maine public school juniors are required to take the SAT) to improve scores.
Applicants can then sit for up to three SAT Subject Tests in June and still have one final testing date in October to fine-tune SAT Subject Test scores or have one last shot at the SAT - before the Early Applications deadline, usually at the beginning of November.
Aware of Maine students' testing needs and time constraints, Maine Prep is offering SAT prep courses beginning November 19 in Falmouth, November 22 in Bangor and Brunswick, November 23 in Cape Elizabeth, and November 24 in Brunswick. All of these 8-session 2-hour courses will prepare students for the January 23 SAT test. Classes to prepare for the March 13 SAT will begin in January and February. Schedules for all of these classes are available by location on Maine Prep's web site (http://www.maineprep.com).
Each year more and more students become aware of the advantages of applying to their favorite college Early Decision or Early Action. According to The Early Admissions Game by Avery et al, "Every selective college admits a higher percentage of early applicants than of regular applicants. Applying early provides a significant admissions advantage, approximately equivalent to the effect of a jump of 100 points in SAT score."
The application process timeline takes many students - and their parents - by surprise. Most timelines for getting high school students ready for college admission are outdated - still based on the old "regular admission" model.
Bob Stuart, a college counselor with Maine College Circle, says, "The whole admissions process, especially for students applying to selective colleges, needs to start early - much earlier than students and parents realize - preferably as early as the freshman or sophomore year. Maine Prep is right: preparing for the SAT should begin no later than the winter of junior year."
