Anesthesia Society Selects Sanford-Brown Institute Instructor as Educator of the Year
The instructor, Christine Barton, is Director of the Anesthesia Technology Program at Sanford-Brown Institute’s Pittsburgh campus. Barton was recently presented with a plaque naming her “Educator of the Year” for Region 2, which covers Pennsylvania and seven other states.
Pittsburgh, PA (Vocus/PRWEB ) November 12, 2009 -- The work of a local instructor has been recognized by the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians (ASATT). The instructor, Christine Barton, is Director of the Anesthesia Technology Program at Sanford-Brown Institute’s Pittsburgh campus. Barton was recently presented with a plaque naming her “Educator of the Year” for Region 2, which covers Pennsylvania and seven other states.
The award recognizes Barton’s dedication in sponsoring, promoting and furthering continuing education programs to advance professionalism among the anesthesia technicians and technologists. It also acknowledges her continued support of the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians.
Barton joined Sanford-Brown Institute in 2008 as an adjunct instructor. She was quickly promoted to Program Director because of her strong background in the field of anesthesia technology. Her experience includes working as chief anesthesia technician at UPMC Presbyterian, where she managed a group of 45 anesthesia technicians and managed equipment and supplies for 40 operating rooms. She also had significant experience as an instructor.

The mission of the ASATT is to establish a professional entity for the field of Anesthesia Technology that will positively affect health care and quality standards, by raising the standards of patient care and by providing a safe anesthetic environment. The ASATT is recognized as the organization responsible for raising the standards for patient care and level of Technologist/Technician competence in all areas of anesthesia.
Barton is the co-author of the publication “Patient Simulation: A novel approach to pharmacy education.” She is an active member of the Society of Medical Simulation and ASATT.
