Gal In Sky Publishing Company is offering a pre-release book promotion for its latest offering, Patchwork and Ornament: A Woman's Journey of Life, Love, and Art by Jeanette Feldman. Patchwork and Ornament will be available for a discounted price, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Donorschoose.org to benefit arts in the schools.
Houston, TX (PRWEB) November 13, 2009 -- Gal in Sky Publishing Company, in conjunction with its upcoming release of Patchwork & Ornament: A Woman's Journey of Life, Love, and Art by Jeanette Feldman, is offering discounted pricing and reduced shipping costs through the end of December, 2009. In addition, Gal in Sky will donate $10 from the sales of each book to Donorschoose.org to support arts in the schools.
Patchwork & Ornament is scheduled for release in early 2010, but copies will be made available earlier to those who participate in this special charity event.
Ms. Feldman grew up in poverty in the South Bronx during the height of the Great Depression. Through the study of art, she transcended her humble beginnings and built a life of love, travel, and creativity.
“Without the advantage of a free education at The Cooper Union School of Art, Ms. Feldman’s life would have been very different--and much sadder,” says Nadine Galinsky Feldman, editor. “In these difficult economic times, as arts budgets are being slashed in the schools, we want to make sure that budding young artists receive the help they need to develop. We also believe that the study of art, even for non-artists, is essential for a well-rounded education. Through this philanthropic endeavor, we can ensure that talented creative people don’t fall through the cracks and honor Jenny Feldman's legacy at the same time.”
Jeanette Feldman died in December 2008, leaving behind dozens of paintings and sculpture as well as a collection of journals. Patchwork and Ornament includes the best of her writings as well as full-color photographs of the artist’s work and travels. She describes a difficult early life as the daughter of an immigrant mother and disabled father. Despite her difficulties and resulting problems with anxiety and depression, she developed as an artist, displaying her work in galleries and exhibitions in New York, Texas, and New Mexico. Patchwork & Ornament includes fascinating reflections on her art, travel, and the inevitable march toward aging and impending death.
