NOW on PBS Showcases “Your America” Classroom Resources during American Education Week
Emmy Award-winning news magazine NOW on PBS showcases its free civic awareness resources and activities for educators and students tied to its critically-acclaimed book Your America: Democracy’s Local Heroes during the 88th annual American Education Week.
New York (PRWEB) November 14, 2009 -- The Emmy Award-winning news magazine NOW on PBS joins the millions of educators, parents, students, and community leaders in celebrating the 88th annual American Education Week -- November 15–21, 2009-- by showcasing its free civic awareness resources and activities for educators and students tied to its critically-acclaimed book Your America: Democracy’s Local Heroes at the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) Annual Conference.
Your America reveals the inspiring, courageous stories of ordinary citizens that have accomplished extraordinary change, Your America reminds us that we all have the strength to transform our communities through grassroots democracy and non-partisan civic activism. The Your America Student and Teacher Guides correlate with the National Civics and Government Standards developed by the Center for Civic Education, providing students with an outstanding opportunity to demonstrate knowledge and skill in the meaning of American citizenship, the rights and responsibilities of citizens, and the steps on how citizens can take part in civic life.
Kicking-off this year's American Education Week, NOW on PBS will showcase the Your America: Democracy’s Local Heroes paperback book, its companion DVD and free online resources at the 89th NCSS Annual Conference, November 13-15, 2009 in Atlanta, Georgia. The NCSS Annual Conference is the largest and most comprehensive gathering of teachers of history, geography, economics, civics, political science, sociology, psychology, anthropology, and law-related education in North America. More than 3,000 educational professionals are expected to attend the conference exploring the civic mission of schools and preparing young citizens to make a better world.
